November 16, 2011 Carrying the Message... America's Pro-Life Tea Party A program of The Movement for a Better America Dear Friend for Life: We have a dramatic new development to announce. We're launching a new program called the Pro-Life Tea Party, and we're inviting you to get together with a small group of your pro-life friends to consider forming your own local Pro-Life Tea Party Team. We all know that this 2012 presidential election season is one of the most important in our history. The outcome will almost certainly determine the future of abortion in America. Right now, abortions are declining by just 1.3% a year. If that continues, we might not see an end to abortion for another 100 years. On the other hand, I'm convinced that the right change in pro-life strategy can virtually end abortion within a decade. Why am I convinced? To achieve that, we have to increase the rate of decline for abortions from 1.3% a year to just 6.7%. I believe that with the right effort, we could achieve10%. That estimate is based on my years of experience in developing innovative marketing strategies for major corporate clients. If I was able to develop strategies that repeatedly produced 500% or more improvement for corporations like Toshiba, Waring, Baker Industries and others, surely we can do much better than 1.3% a year in the fight against abortion today. Pro-life Tea Party Teams are just the first step in implementing that strategy. And the key to its success is convincing our fellow Americans that the consequences of abortion include the end of our civilization as we have known it. To do that, we need to make sure that the moral, social and economic impact of abortion becomes a central part of the debate surrounding the 2012 presidential race. If America is to survive, we can't let our political leaders get away with dishing out "the same, same old" political solutions in order to get elected. So far, they have been getting away with just that. More big government solutions are certainly not the answer to today's crisis. While cutting taxes and reducing spending are required to get our fiscal house in order, they don't begin to address the deeper moral, social, and cultural crisis that is tearing America apart. For decades, discussion of abortion has been smothered by a solid wall of denial driven by the media and the political establishment. That kind of political correctness is nothing more than intimidation designed to suppress dissent from pro-life conservatives. We the People must make ourselves heard. Pro-life Tea Party teams are just the way to do that. Moveon.org, the Tea Parties, and now the Occupados have demonstrated the power of the social media to rise above the controlled power of the mainstream media and the political establishment. Pro-lifers are doing it, too. In just a year, I've garnered more than 3,000 followers on Facebook and Twitter, and they probably average nearly 1,000 friends each. That's 3 million at just 1 level of separation. Now we want to train others, not just in the way social media work, but how to frame the message in ways that actually change people's hearts and minds, and then change lives. Marshall MacLuhan was not quite right when he said "the medium is the message." In fact, the medium is just an echo chamber for the message. The long trace of history shows that, ultimately, it is the idea that drives the consequences. Every great civilization, good or bad, was guided by a central idea. For fallen Rome, it was money, power, and pointless pleasures. (Does that sound familiar?) For Christendom, it was the redemption of fallen human nature by a loving God. Today, we have to choose again. The fallout from the sexual revolution of the '60's has brought America to the edge of disaster. Nothing has done more damage to our nation and its future than the tolerant attitude of our government and its institutions to abortion on demand. If we can't change that, then doomsday prophets like my friend Pat Buchanan will prove correct. I'm now reading Pat's latest book, "Will America Survive to 2025? Suicide of a Superpower." He presents a grim, almost despairing picture. I beg to disagree. Today, it is our calling to use today's challenge, as early Christians did, to build a vital, hopeful civilization on the ruins of a failing secular culture. As the late Henri deLubac wisely wrote, "Christians do not await events. Events await us." And that's the reason we need Pro-Life Tea Party Teams. Let's face it: America is failing because it doesn't recognize the perils that confront it. If we were attacked by any other scourge that lasted for over 44 years, killed 55 million future citizens, and left more than 25 million women among the walking wounded, it would be the lead story on the Nightly News all week long. Yet abortion is still taking 3300 lives in the U.S. every day and the media ignores it. All the atrocities of the 20th Century pale in comparisons to an estimated 1.5 billion victims of abortion around the world. That's 15 times worse than the murderous rampages of Hitler and Stalin combined. Yet folks are reluctant to talk about it even in the hushed environment of our churches, although nothing has done more harm to faith in our times than abortion. Our churches are reeling from the losses both in numbers . . . and in shattered faith. It's time we took Ronald Reagan's most famous line, "Tear down this wall!" and applied it to the wall of denial surrounding abortion. To do that, we need a nationwide awakening designed to confront all of us -- from the president on down -- with questions that get to the heart of what abortion is doing to America. Fundamental questions like these . . .
But now the handwriting is on the wall. The harsh reality is that America cannot survive unless we become willing to change. Together, we have to summon the moral courage to reverse America's moral and spiritual decline. Even now, "conservative" candidates dance around the issue while making headlines about fiscal programs with catchy titles, or the latest buzz about allegations of sexual misconduct. It's like Nero fiddling while Rome burns. None of these things will postpone our collapse as a free society for even a day. To save the America we love, we need to get serious about the changes that have rocked our society to its foundations. Throughout the industrial West, we have cut birth rates in half while nearly doubling life expectancy. Populations have grown, not because of births, but because we now have four generations alive instead of two. Meanwhile, we pursue solutions like Obamacare that drive up medical costs, but continue to abort the young. We've forgotten the simple truth: No kids, no future. It's as simple as that. Meanwhile, technology has erased more jobs than it created -- dramatically changing the supply-demand equation for labor. We compounded that by forcing high cost labor in the West to compete with near-slave labor in the developing world, and called it "free trade." Instead of importing slaves, we exported jobs. The effect is exactly the same. In the '60's, we thought the way to pursue happiness was to throw the rules away. The Pill changed how people viewed pregnancy and childbirth. Before, pregnancy was seen in sacred, almost religious terms. The Pill medicalized the metaphor. "Got a headache? Pop a pill. Pregnant? Pop a pill." Abortion promptly became a billion dollar industry. And morality went out the window. The Supreme Court gave us Roe v. Wade and ignored the consequences. Abortions soon soared to a peak of 1.6 million a year. The toll has since climbed to 55 million lives lost with an estimated cost to total GDP of at least $42 trillion. That's three times our national debt. It reminds me of the old quiz show, "Truth or Consequences." Either we embrace the truth or pay the consequences. Like other great civilizations before us, America can not survive its own moral and spiritual decline. We must change or perish. That's where the Pro-Life Tea Party Teams comes in. Like the patriots of 1776, we must band together across all the silly lines that divide us or we will simply not be heard. Together, we must awaken a sleeping America to the perils that confront us. Each of us in his or her own way must try to carry this message to at least one other person every single day . . .
Meanwhile, expect other dramatic new developments as we move along. Among those on the drawing board is an online Pro-Life Tea Party television talk show -- hopefully one that can even take call-in questions. Stay tuned for these and other exciting developments. The staggering economic impact of abortion is one of the most powerful messages we can use to change public opinion about abortion. It has already cost us more than $40 trillion in lost GDP and eliminated 30% of the under-40 generation. America can't survive another abortion generation That's why we're launching a fresh campaign to make this is a major issue in 2012. Our goal is to unite social and economic conservatives into a solid pro-life majority. However, success will take time, effort, and money. Your donation can make it happen. By August 31, 2011 the abortion toll will reach . . . 54,513,314 If this doesn't shock you, By Dennis M. Howard Copyright, 2011 Most people are shocked to learn that there have been 54.5 million abortions in the United States since abortion was decriminalized in Colorado in 1967. A recent poll showed that even a majority of pro-choice people in New York City are shocked by the numbers. However, we don't post these numbers to shock anyone. We do so to invite people to think about the implications for their own future and the future of the country. They affect all of us as family members, taxpayers, and citizens of the most extraordinary society that has ever graced the face of the earth. Yes, we have endured traumatic times before. They almost always involved fundamental principles of law and justice . . . like life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Slavery and the Civil War are perhaps the best examples. But World War II and the long Cold War qualify, too. At stake in each case were the fundamental principles in which we believe. At 29, Lincoln warned that if America died from anything, it would be failure from within. Years later he said, "While the people retain their virtue and their vigilance, no administration, by any extreme of wickedness or folly, can very seriously injure the government in the short space of four years." That view is certainly being tested now, as it has been by other corrupt administrations in the past. But it is the other element in Lincoln's comment that should unnerve us: that, by killing our own unborn children, we are rapidly losing our claim to virtue and vigilance. Let's be honest. Even slavery -- as awful as it was -- pales in comparison to the evil of abortion. At its peak, slavery affected the lives of perhaps 3 million blacks. We have already ended the lives of 6 times times that many blacks in four decades of abortion; and 18 times that many unborn children of all races and colors. Slavery never even came close to doing that. The loss of lives and of faith can also be seen in our churches today. Just look at all the empty pews and you will see a missing generation -- many lost because they are no longer among us . . . plus many more who have lost faith in a world that values life so little. Those who justified slavery often did so on economic terms. Without the low cost labor of slaves, the agrarian economy of the South could not survive, they said. Yet, in fact it did. A century and a half later, the South is far more prosperous than it ever would have been if slavery had survived. By contrast, abortion today threatens our very survival as a nation. Just look at the numbers: 54.5 million abortions represent 30% of the under-45 generation. If they were still around today, that segment of our economy would be 43% larger -- providing needed impetus for new household formation, housing, education, automobiles, electronics, clothing, agricultural products, healthcare. Moreover, half of them would still be in school creating jobs for other people. We'd need millions more teachers, nurses, doctors, workers and small businesses of all kinds. We estimate the total at 1.4 million more new businesses and 21 million more jobs. We are also losing something else -- an investment in our own future. How many future leaders in government, business, the arts, religion were in that 54.5 million? How many more scientists, business people, workers, consumers, taxpayers would have been born except for abortion? The myth that they would all end up on welfare is insane. And please make sure you count the missing parents of still another generation! Because our under - 45 generation has a huge hole in it, the next one will have one, too. It's the inevitable "echo effect" of any negative demographic shift. It goes on and on, and it causes the kind of negative compounding that brings down civilizations. That's why management maven Peter Drucker called "the collapsing birth rate in the developed world" the most important management challenge of the 21st Century. "In fact," he said, "Japan and all of Southern Europe . . . are drifting toward national suicide by the end of the 21st Century." There is nothing new about this. The former Soviet Union was the first to collapse -- not because of Ronald Reagan -- but because they were aborting 300 babies for every 100 live births for decades. You can't do that and remain strong as a country. Even China won't escape the crisis -- not because its economy is so closely linked to ours, but because their demographic crisis is even worse than ours. Their youth population is shrinking faster than ours because of their 1-child per family policy, and their aging population is 5 or 6 times larger than ours. You'll know they've hit the wall when they begin euthanizing the elderly faster than they have been killing the unborn. So that's why we post these numbers. It is to remind us all that there is no way to sustain a growth economy in a society where the demographic pie keeps shrinking the way it has -- decade after decade -- for 50 years. This is also the source of our conflict with the Muslim world, where the average rate of natural increase is 5 or 6 times what it is for countries in the West. The truth is: If we keep killing our babies, they'll bury us. It is only a matter of time, unless we decide to change. Lincoln was right. We need to get to work "restoring our virtue and our vigilance, and ending these extremes of wickedness and folly," or there may well be hell to pay.
